Home Economics

Vunimono High School offers a range of Food Studies Programs to the Junior students as well as General Food Science and Technology Courses to the Senior students. We also have an excellent syllabi for Clothing and Textiles and Home Management. The focus of these Junior programs is about building confidence in the kitchen and homes with a practical approach. Students learn to use a variety of cooking techniques to create simple meals and snacks, as well as food safety and hygiene practices, basic nutrition, time management, communication and teamwork. They are further equipped with the skills of basic clothing textile designing which is further encompassed into home management.

In the senior years, there is a more professional focus. The students will learn about workplace safety and health requirements, safe food handling practices, a variety of food preparation and preservation techniques, adapting recipes, costing recipes, and dietary requirements to suit the needs of individuals and garment designing. This course may enhance employability and career opportunities in areas that include nutrition, health, food and beverage manufacturing, food processing, community services, hospitality and retail (Enterprising).

The aim of the Home Economics Department is to provide practical and theoretical knowledge to assist our students in living a healthy life stylishly. “You are what you eat and what you wear” is a constant theme in our teaching.
